Internet Use Policy
YARMOUTH TOWN LIBRARIES COMPUTER AND INTERNET USAGE POLICY
The Yarmouth Town Libraries do not monitor and have no control over the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. The Internet is a global entity with a highly diverse user population and library patrons use it at their own discretion and risk.
It is the libraries’ policy that parents or legal guardians must assume responsibility for deciding what library resources are appropriate for their children. Parents or legal guardians of children under 14 years of age must sign an Internet consent form before their children can use our Internet services.
Use of the Internet is on a first-come, first-served basis and the libraries do not reserve them in advance. The Internet is available from all public access workstations.
There is a half-hour time limit for using the Internet if someone is waiting. You must agree to make the computer available within 5 minutes after being informed by the library staff that someone is waiting.
Any action that improperly restricts or inhibits other patrons from using and enjoying the Internet and other library resources is strictly prohibited. Intentional exposure of other individuals, particularly children, to materials or images which may be unsuitable or objectionable, such as abusive, obscene, sexually oriented, racially offensive, or illegal materials will result in the loss of computer privileges.
Conditions and Terms of Computer Use in the Library
- Youth under 14 must have parental or guardian permission to access the Internet. The library does not monitor Internet access.
- Computers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. You must sign in and are limited to half an hour if there is a waiting list.
- You must pay for all printouts, even pages you print by mistake. (HINT: Use Print Preview to determine which pages to print.) The cost of printing is 15 cents per page.
- If you need to save your work, please verify that the computer you are using has an appropriate storage capability. Most library computers provide temporary storage in the My Documents folder; for external storage, our computers offer floppy drives, CD burning, or USB drives for removable disks, but be aware that not all computers have all types of external storage. Please plan accordingly.
- Library computers cannot be used for commercial purposes.
- Failure to use computers appropriately and responsibly may result in revocation of Internet use privileges.
- Use of the libraries’ public access computers for illegal activities may result in prosecution. Illegal activities include, but are not limited to:
- Transmitting material, information or software in violation of local, state, or federal laws
- Unauthorized copying of copyrighted materials (Title 17 of the U.S. Code)
- Any malicious attempt to harm or destroy hardware or software
